Suffering

“Bhikkhus, there are these three kinds of suffering. What three? Suffering due to pain, suffering due to formations, suffering due to change. These are the three kinds of suffering. The Noble Eightfold Path is to be developed for direct knowledge of these three kinds of suffering, for the full understanding of them, for their utter destruction, for their abandoning.”

Forms of Suffering

“Mendicants, there are these three forms of suffering.
What three?
The suffering inherent in painful feeling; the suffering inherent in conditions; and the suffering inherent in perishing.
These are the three forms of suffering.
The noble eightfold path should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these three forms of suffering.”
