Development

“Bhikkhus, I will teach you the development of the four establishments of mindfulness. Listen to that….

“What, bhikkhus, is the development of the four establishments of mindfulness? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and displeasure in regard to the world. He dwells contemplating feelings in feelings … mind in mind … phenomena in phenomena, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful, having removed covetousness and displeasure in regard to the world. This, bhikkhus, is the development of the four establishments of mindfulness.”

Development

“Mendicants, I will teach you the development of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
Listen …
And what is the development of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation?
It’s when a mendicant meditates by observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world.
They meditate observing an aspect of feelings …
mind …
principles—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world.
This is the development of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation.”
