tha-ap.400 Thera Apadana

Salaḷamaṇḍapiya

When Kakusandha passed away,
the Brahmin, the Perfected One,
gathering salaḷa flowers,
I constructed a pavilion.

Having gone to Tāvatiṁsa,
I received a supreme mansion.
I surpassed all the other gods:
that is the fruit of good karma.

Whether it’s the day or the night,
walking back and forth or standing,
I’m covered with salaḷa blooms:
that is the fruit of good karma.

Within just this present aeon
since I thus worshipped the Buddha,
I’ve come to know no bad rebirth:
that’s the fruit of Buddha-pūjā.

My defilements are now burnt up;
all new existence is destroyed.
All defilements are exhausted;
now there will be no more rebirth.

Being in Best Buddha’s presence
was a very good thing for me.
The three knowledges are attained;
I have done what the Buddha taught!

The four analytical modes,
and these eight deliverances,
six special knowledges mastered,
I have done what the Buddha taught!

Thus indeed Venerable Salaḷamaṇḍapiya Thera spoke these verses.

The legend of Salaḷamaṇḍapiya Thera is finished.
